Recommended security practices for venues

Use these guidelines to balance security with ease of use

Portal

In a busy and/or non-secure environment:

  • Ensure the auto-logout timeout settings are configured to a suitable timeframe - the default is 30 seconds.
  • Leave the Remember Me toggle set to Off when logging into the portal - this means you will need to verify your login with a code sent to your email address next time you log in.
  • Use a password that only you know, and don't store the password in your browser or a password management tool.

App

In a busy and/or non-secure environment:

  • Ensure the auto-logout timeout settings for the mobile app are configured to a suitable timeframe (this is done via the management portal). The default is 30 minutes, which may be too long for your venue's environment.
  • Leave the Remember Me toggle set to On when logging into the mobile app and the operator will only need to input their password again when the device does an auto-logout. (If the toggle is set to Off then the operator will need to retrieve a verification code from the applicable email account in order to log back in.)
  • Do not reuse passwords - reset them regularly.
  • Do not connect the device to unsecure or free public Wi-Fi networks. See Network connection for your Scantek-supplied device for more info.
